Discover Manufacturing has awarded $64,500 in scholarships to exceptional students who will begin or continue a rewarding career in the Advanced Manufacturing Industry.

Multiple scholarships from $500 to $2,000 are awarded each year:

For skilled trades technical training, including continuing education for adults and apprentices.
For graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree in manufacturing-related programs.

Scholarship winners and their families are invited to attend an award reception in the spring. At the event, winners receive their scholarship and have an opportunity to network with manufacturers and education partners.

How do I apply?

The online application will open in the fall with a mid-March due date. Scholarships will be awarded based on an online application and a 500-word essay telling our selection committee:

“Why manufacturing is the right career path for me and how I plan to make a difference in a manufacturing environment.”

“What experiences, related skills, or exposure to the manufacturing industry led you to pursue this industry?”

Scholarships are renewable for up to $1,000 amount for past winners for 2 years. Prior recipients must complete the application but do not have to complete the essay. Renewal is determined by the selection committee.

How will my application be scored?

Funding may vary in award amounts based on number of winners and available funding.

$500 award: scores of 75% - 79%
$1,000 award: scores of 80% - 89%
$1,500 award: scores of 90% - 99%
$2,000 award: scores of 100%

40 points: Answering both essay questions to communicate why manufacturing is the right career path for you and how you plan to make a difference within a manufacturing environment.

15 points: Spelling, grammar, and structure of your essay.

15 points: An explanation of the experience, related skills, or exposure to manufacturing you have had.

15 points: A statement of why funds are needed and how they will be utilized.

15 points: Resides within the identified seven county region or strong statement of connection to West Michigan.

What other criteria do I have to meet?

Explain why funds are needed and how they will be utilized.
Provide the selection committee with college acceptance documentation or enrollment documentation for funds to be released (including a W9).
If required documentation is not provided, the scholarship offer may be withdrawn.
Students in Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Montcalm, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties will receive additional points. Students from surrounding areas may be considered with a strong connection to West Michigan or attending school in West Michigan.
